The Electronic Frontier Foundation is a non-profit civil liberties organization working to protect privacy, free expression, and access to online resources and information. Their web site at EFFweb - The Electronic Frontier Foundation has more information.
Although not specifically targeted to artists and designers, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions provides a huge bibliography of Copyright and Intellectual Property Resources.
Allworth Press offers photographers, artists, writers, and other creative professionals numerous books and articles, including the monthly The Creative Artist's Legal News, containing practical legal information.
The Copyright Website offers practical, real world information on copyright and the World Wide Web, including international issues.
A white paper from Index Stock Photography, Inc. entitled "Licensing Still Images" contains practical information on copyright and intellectual property issues. Although it's written from the perspective of a designer wishing to use images, it's also useful for artists and reps wishing to provide images.
A paper entitled "An Intellectual Property Law Primer for Multimedia Developers" by attorneys J. Dianne Brinson and Mark F. Radcliffe is an excellent introduction to intellectual property (copyright, patent, trademark, and trade secret) law.
U.S. Patent, Trademark & Copyright Information provides information on intellectual property law and rights geared toward artists, authors, and small business owners.
To see what the law (at least US law) says, visit Cornell Law School's Legal Information Institute. Included in the legal resources they provide is a hypertext publication of the Copyright Act of 1976, and the Berne Convention.
